Minnesota Supreme Court establishes comment period and hearing on Board of Law Examiners’ Report and Recommendations
The Minnesota Supreme Court has issued an Order establishing a comment period until September 11, 2023, related to the Board’s Report and Recommendation. The Court will hold a public hearing on October 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom at the State Capitol, St. Paul, Minnesota.

MN Board of Law Examiners Files Competency Report
On June 21, 2021, the Minnesota Board of Law Examiners (Board) announced plans to commence a two-year study of the bar examination for the purpose of providing the Minnesota Supreme Court with a report and recommendations. The Board has engaged in a comprehensive process over the last two years, and on June 1, 2023, filed its report and recommendations with the Court. The report and appendices are available here.
MN Board of Law Examiners Announces Public Notice
On June 21, 2021, the Minnesota Board of Law Examiners (Board) announced plans to commence a two-year study of the bar examination for the purpose of providing the Minnesota Supreme Court with a report and recommendations no later than June 1, 2023. On June 21, 2022, the Board provided an update on the status of the study, provided notice of upcoming listening sessions, and provided information on three Working Group reports that had been published to the Board’s website. On November 14, 2022, the Board published its initial determinations and invited public comments and participation in upcoming listening sessions. The Board has carefully considered all of the input provided. The Board plans to make seven (7) recommendations to the Minnesota Supreme Court in its report to be filed with the Court in June. The Board solicits written response and comment on these seven recommendations on or before May 1, 2023.

MN Board of Law Examiners Announces Upcoming Listening Sessions and Publication of the Working Group Reports in the Comprehensive Competency Study
The Minnesota Board of Law Examiners (Board) announced plans to commence a comprehensive two-year study of the bar examination for the purpose of providing the Minnesota Supreme Court with a report and recommendations no later than June 1, 2023. The Working Group process began in January 2022 and continued through May 2022. The three Working Groups have each submitted a report with recommendations. Minnesota Board of Law Examiners Committee Sets First Four Meeting Dates

The Minnesota Board of Law Examiners has scheduled the first four meetings of its comprehensive two-year study of the bar examination for the following dates and times:
• September 21, 2021: 2:30 to 4:00 – The first meeting will be conducted via Zoom. The link for the meeting is provided in the agenda.
• October 6, 2021: 2:30 to 4:00
• November 8, 2021: 1:30 to 3:00
• December 8, 2021: 2:30 to 4:00
The agenda will be posted in advance of the meeting. With the exception of the first meeting, a portion of each meeting will be allocated for public comments. Order Issued Effective May 1, 2021
The Minnesota Supreme Court has issued an Order dated March 1, 2021, granting the Board’s Petition to amend Rules 4 and Rules 10 of the Rules for Admission to the Bar to broaden the pathways for admission in Minnesota for foreign educated graduates. The revisions to the Rules are effective May 1, 2021. As discussed in the Order, the Board will continue to study this issue.
